Lessons & Programmes Primary School
Here at The Music School Wanstead, we offer an exciting programme of musical instrument lessons to suit all ability levels.
You can choose a music style that suits you such as classical or popular and learn comfortably at your own pace, or even work towards taking an exam. All of our teachers are friendly, knowledgeable and are happy to talk to you about what you want to learn.

Piano & Keyboard
The piano is a fantastic instrument to learn as you learn to play the melody, accompaniment and bass line all at the same time; it’s like playing an orchestra, with only two hands!
Tuition is on Yamaha e-pianos, they have weighted keys and are an excellent way to begin learning and there’s so much music written for piano in jazz, popular or classical styles, they’ll be spoilt for choice.
They can also take a graded exam on piano – just have a chat with your teacher about how to do this.

Violin
This is a wonderful instrument for children as young as 5 to start learning to play as it comes in many different sizes and there are small sizes available that make it easier and more comfortable for young children to play.
The violin is a melody instrument with many of the great tunes written for the violin and our expert teachers can give you advice about the instrument best suited for your child.
They can also take a graded exam on violin and your teacher will be only too happy to discuss this with you.

Albert Einstein and Sherlock Homes both played the violin.
Electric guitar
If being on stage shredding in a band is your aim, then the electric guitar is for you. Beginners’ packages, which include the instrument, lead and amp are reasonably priced.
Learning the electric guitar allows you to play many different styles of music – not just rock guitar music!
You can also take a graded exam on electric guitar and your teacher can advise you on this.

Classical guitar
Classical guitarists use their right-hand fingers to pick and strum the strings, often playing a bass line and a melody at the same time.
Instruments are available in half, three quarter and full sizes which cater for pupils of all sizes.
Learning the classical guitar allows you to play many different styles of music – not just classical guitar music. Graded exams are available for classical guitar, just speak to your teacher about this.

Classical guitar use nylon strings and they don’t use an amplifier.
Group Programmes | 6 to 9 year olds
Violin, Guitars, Ukulele or Piano\Keyboard Groups Group settings offer a relaxed and fun beginning to learning about music and how to play a musical instrument.
Children can learn to play different styles of music confidently and at the same time build the habits and skills required to make great progress.

Later on we would recommend that the pupil progresses to a shared or individual lesson. You can also easily change instruments if you want to, and experience what other instruments are like to play before making any long term commitment to just one instrument.
Early Years Classes
2-6 year olds.
Our Early Years Music Classes are based on the world-renowned Kodaly approach to music education. Your child will develop a love for music through singing, movement, action games and percussion instruments.
